Poteca is made by one person. If something is broken, or if you know a trail better than it is written here, write to me. I read everything.
Write to me
I usually answer within two or three days. If something is broken in the app, tell me which phone you have and which version of iOS — it gets fixed much faster.
🆘 If you are on the mountain and it is an emergency
Do not write to me. Call 112, and in Romania mountain rescue — 0725 826 668. The numbers for every country are in the app, under the guide, and they work with no connection.
The questions I get most
The download needs Wi-Fi and a few minutes. If it stops halfway, quit the app completely, reopen it and try again — it picks up where it left off. One hike takes between 3 and 5 MB.
First check it is the same hike you downloaded — tiles are saved per hike, not for the whole app. Then check the zoom level: outside the levels that were downloaded the map stays blank. Zoom out a little and it should come back.
The forecast comes from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, via Open-Meteo, for the trailhead coordinates. Fifteen hundred metres higher it is 8–10 degrees colder and the wind is a different wind. The app corrects for altitude, but no forecast is true 24 hours ahead in the mountains. Check it again the morning you leave.
Write to me and I will fix it. Tell me which hike and what exactly — the duration, the waymark, the price, the trailhead. The data comes from public sources and from the ground, and the ground changes: paths close, cable cars get more expensive, huts move.
Send me the name, the massif and the waymark. I cannot promise it goes in quickly — every hike means checking it on the map, with train times and a real cost — but every hike added so far arrived this way.
Your notes, plans and downloaded maps live only on your phone. I cannot see them and I have nothing to delete on my side. If you uninstall the app, they go with it.
Not yet. The website works on any phone, Android included, but without offline maps and without reminders. If you want the Android version, write to me — it helps to know how many of you there are.
Who is behind it
Poteca is written and maintained by Glodeanu George, in Romania. It is not a company, it is not funded by anyone, and it sells nobody’s data — because it collects no data at all.
