Penteleu e un munte de pășuni, nu de stânci. Creasta e largă și blândă, cu stâne active care produc brânza de Penteleu, cunoscută în toată țara.
Din vârf se văd Ciucașul, Siriul și, spre est, dealurile Buzăului. E o zonă fără turism organizat, unde poți merge o zi întreagă fără să întâlnești pe nimeni în afară de ciobani.
